Centennial Auditorium, a state-of-the art, 850-seat performing arts center, located on the Sterling High School campus, opened its doors to the public on October 3, 1998 – the 100th anniversary of the opening of Sterling High School. Since then, the auditorium has become a true community treasure, hosting concerts, plays, musicals, speaking engagements, and many other activities, not just for Sterling Public School students, but also for other local schools and the community. The auditorium provides our community with a world-class performance center, which would make any small-to-medium-sized college proud.
What makes Centennial Auditorium truly unique is the fact that is was built and is still operated today without the use of taxpayer money. From 1994-1998, the Sterling Schools Foundation conducted a comprehensive fundraising campaign, which netted over $6,000,000 in donations from SHS alumni, local businesses and organizations, and supportive citizens. Another local charitable organization provided matching funds to help encourage support of the campaign. Funds from the original campaign are still being used today for auditorium operation expenses.
The Sterling Schools Foundation owns the auditorium through a lease arrangement with Sterling Public Schools.
SSF continues to seek financial support for auditorium operations and improvements. You can help by making a tax-deductible donation today. Auditorium seats can be purchased for $300 each. With each seat purchase, the donor’s name is permanently placed on a display, which mirrors the auditorium seating arrangement and is located just outside the auditorium’s main entrance.
