2010 Roscoe Eades Award Winners Named

Sterling High School is proud to announce Tyler Loos '10 and Ember Schuldt '10 as the recipients of the 2009-2010 Roscoe Eades Awards.

Loos, son of Breck '81 and Sheri Loos, won seven varsity letters in his four years at SHS, three in football and four in track and field.

Loos received numerous accolades for his hard work and determination on the football field: IHSFCA 5A All-State 1st team (’08 & ’09); Quad City Times All-Area 1st team (’08 & ’09); Champaign Gazette Top 100 special mention (’08 & ’09); Chicago Tribune All-State special mention (’08 & ’09); Sauk Valley News All-Area 1st team (’08 & ’09); ICA Shrine Game selection; Taualii Coaches’ MVP Award; NCIC 1st team unanimous selection (’08 & ’09). Loos also helped his football team win back-to-back conference championships in his junior and senior seasons, the first time since 1984.

Loos was an IHSA discus state qualifier in 2009 and placed 10th at the state meet. In 2010, he qualified in both the shot put and the discus, ending his high school track career as a state champion in the discus, with a throw of 160-2, Sterling’s first male individual state champion since 1996, earning him MVP honors as well. Loos is currently ranked seventh all-time in SHS history in the discus, with his throw of 167-1 on May 14th, 2010. He is also ranked fourth all-time in the shot put, with a throw of 56-1 on April 13th, 2010.

Loos was also involved in SHS activities outside of athletics, as a member of the Young Leaders of America; a Rotary scholar his freshman and senior year; a WYSE member his junior and senior year; and a Boys State attendee. Loos excelled in the classroom as well, being named to the NCIC all-academic football and track teams (’09, ’10).

Loos was named as the 2009-2010 Sauk Valley Newspapers’ Male Athlete of the Year. He will attend Northern Illinois University on a full athletic scholarship and play football for the Huskies.

Schuldt, daughter of Don and Lou Ann (Miatke) Schuldt '72, won six varsity letters in her four years at SHS, four in golf and two in basketball. Ember was an NCIC 1st team selection each year in golf and was also named captain and MVP all four years.

Ember ended her SHS golf career with three NCIC championships, two regional championships, one sectional championship, four appearances in the state finals, and two state medals. She earned a third place state medal in both her junior and senior seasons. Ember will be remembered as far-and-away the best female golfer in Sterling history.

On the basketball court, Ember helped her team finish with a 21-11 record in her junior season. During her senior basketball season, the Warriors finished with a record of 22-9 and recaptured the NCIC championship.

In the classroom, Ember was also a force, earning NCIC All-Academic honors during her junior and senior years in both sports. Schuldt was also selected to the IHSA All-State academic team as an honorable mention in her senior year. Not only did she excel in the classroom, but Schuldt was also involved in Key Club, Science Club, and National Honor Society. She served as a D.A.R.E. role model, junior Rotarian, and junior class treasurer.

Schuldt’s state and national accomplishments are also impressive: 46th in American Junior Golf Association rankings for the class of 2010; three AJGA top 10 finishes, including a runner-up finish at the AJGA John Deere Classic; 2008 Illinois Junior Golf Association Junior Girls Champion (2009 runner-up); 2009 USGA Women's Public Links winner; 2009 Mid-American Junior Golf Tour All-Midwest girls champion.

When Ember isn’t golfing, she enjoys playing other sports, reading, listening to music, and watching movies. This fall, Ember will take her talents to the next level as part of the University of Illinois women’s golf team.

Loos and Schuldt were chosen from a list of finalists, which also included Allie Yemm, Jaime Rehmert, Johnny Lopez and Colin Arnold.

The Roscoe Eades Award, given in honor of the late Roscoe Eades for his 40 years of service to Sterling High School, is presented to the senior athletes who, in the estimation of the high school coaching staff, have contributed the most to the Sterling High School athletic program in their high school careers.
